Diagnostic phase – Towards greater gender equality in public transport professions in Madagascar

As part of the Zotra Fitaratra project, a field diagnostic phase is taking place from 19 June to 1 July 2025 in Antananarivo. The aim is to promote gender equality in public transport professions, particularly in Taxis Be, by integrating women into a historically male-dominated environment.

During this period, field surveys will be conducted with several stakeholders: transport cooperatives, households, female public transport staff and driving schools. The aim is to gather the perceptions and representations of the various stakeholders regarding the place of women in this sector. This data will provide a better understanding of existing socio-cultural barriers and identify levers for action to promote the sustainable social inclusion of women in the profession.

To ensure the quality of the data collected, a 2.5-day preparatory training course was organised for the surveyors from 16 to 18 June 2025. This work is being carried out by Codatu, with technical support from the KAROKA office.

The expected results will make it possible to determine the current representation of women in public transport in Antananarivo and lay the foundations for a concrete strategy for their gradual integration into this sector.
