Why organise the First African Paratransit Fair?

In many African cities, paratransit is at the heart of daily mobility: it accounts for nearly 70% of motorised journeys and enables millions of people every day to access employment, education and essential services. What makes it so effective? Its flexibility, its proximity to users and its ability to respond quickly to mobility needs.

Yet despite its critical role, the sector faces major challenges:

🔹 A highly fragmented industry
🔹 Uneven service quality
🔹 Difficult working conditions for operators
🔹 Growing economic pressure linked to operating costs and congestion
🔹 Increasing environmental challenges

Faced with these realities, the question is no longer whether paratransit should be part of Africa’s mobility future, but how to support its transformation.

➡️ To make it more structured.
➡️ To make it more professional.
➡️ To modernize it.
➡️ To better integrate it into urban mobility systems.

This is the ambition behind the First African Paratransit Fair: creating a platform where public authorities, transport operators, manufacturers, technology providers, financial institutions, and mobility experts can come together to discuss solutions and shape the future of mobility in Africa.

The First African Paratransit Fair, co-organized by CODATU and AMUGA, will take place on October 20–21, 2026, at Hôtel Ivoire in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

Join the stakeholders shaping the future of mobility in Africa.
