Vélo City 2017 – The call for abstracts is now open!

What
is Velo-City?

Velo-city was held for the first time in 1980 in Bremen, because Germany played a key role in setting up the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF), the initiator of this international cycling conference. Ever since, Velo-city has been hosted by cities such as Copenhagen, Brussels, Barcelona, Montreal, Nantes and Taipei. This is the third time that Velo-city will be held in the Netherlands, having previously taken place in Groningen (1987) and Amsterdam (2000). Since then, a completely new generation of cycling planning professionals, designers and policy makers has emerged in the Netherlands, without ever participating in this important conference. Nowadays, 1,000 to 1,500 visitors participate in Velo-city, all of whom play an important role in the field of cycling.

Velo-city brings together specialists involved in policy, promotion and provision of bicycle facilities and programmes. Engineers, designers, architects, social marketers, academic researchers, environmental activists and representatives from the business world join forces with the government on all levels, ranging from local politicians and policy makers to trainers, in sharing knowledge with a view to effective international collaboration to benefit on a global scale.

This year, Velo-City will be held from 13 to 16 June 2017. The preliminary program of Velo-city 2017 will be announced in the first week of December.
