UMI 2016: Launch of MYC and official announcement of the joint conference CODATU XVII-UMI 2017

CODATU will be present at the 9th Urban Mobility India Conference and Exhibition (UMI), the annual flagship event of the Indian Ministry of Urban Development, to be held for the first time in Ahmedabad (Gujarat) from 8th to 11th November 2016. The origin of the conference is the National Urban Transport Policy (NUTP), 2006 of the Government of India, which lays strong emphasis on building capabilities at the state and city level to undertake the task of developing sustainable urban transport in the country. The event is organized by the Institute of Urban Transport (IUT), historical partner of CODATU, as it was created in 1997, further to the CODATU VII Conference in Delhi in 1996.

The presence of CODATU in UMI this year will be the opportunity to officially announce the organization of the next CODATU Conference as a joint event with the 10th Urban Mobility India Conference, from 7th to 10th November 2017, in Hyderabad (India). The announcement will be made by Ali Huzayyin, Vice-President of CODATU during the Valedictory Session of UMI 16 on Friday 11th November, afternoon.

Launch of MobiliseYourCity in India

UMI 2016 represents a great opportunity for CODATU and AFD to launch the MobiliseYourCity initiative, in the presence of representatives from the three pilot cities in India: Ahmedabad, Nagpur and Kochi. The roundtable “MobiliseYourCity – Comprehensive Mobility Plans for Low-Carbon Strategies” will take place on November 9th (11.30-13.00) and will be chaired by CODATU and AFD.

CODATU is also chairing a Technical Session on November 10th (11.30-13.00) on the following topic: “Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning: lessons learned”, in the presence of Ms. Kanika Kalra, Urban Transport Expert at the Institute of Urban Transport (IUT), and Ms. Rosario Macario, teacher at the Instituto Superior Technico (Main School of Engineering) at the Lisbon Technical University (Portugal) and Director in TIS.PT – Transport, Innovation and Systems, an international consultancy company based in Lisbon.
