“Out-of-Fare-Box” Financing for the Operation of Metros and Urban Rail: Urban Mobility Forum in Egypt [Cairo 19th-20th November 2016]

The
Urban Mobility Forum (UMF) is organised in the framework of the “Sustainable Urban Transport” program of the Center for Mediterranean Integration of Marseille (CMI) coordinated by AFD (French Development Agency), CODATU and CEREMA. This event is organized in partnership with the Euromed RRU project, and the Egyptian Ministry of Transports.

By organizing Urban Mobility Forum in its member countries, the CMI aims to be as close as possible to the issues and concerns of local and national decision makers. This forum, usually organized in partnership with the Ministry in charge of urban transport of the hosting country, aims at addressing actual burning urban transport issues, using a largely participative approach.

Following the success of the events organized in Amman (2015), Tunis (2014) and Rabat (2013) and with the purpose of strengthening the multi-stakeholder debate at local and national level, CODATU, AFD and CEREMA, in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Transports and the Euromed RRU project, will organize this year an Urban Mobility Forum to be held in Cairo on the 19th and 20th of November 2016. Given the Egyptian context and the urgency of addressing the issue of financing urban transport, this event will address the “Out-of-Fare-Box Financing for the Operation of Metros and Urban Rail: Urban mobility forum in Egypt”. The Forum is organized in close collaboration with Egyptian partners and contemplates the participation of local and national stakeholders, policy makers, representatives of municipalities and various ministries, associations and universities, as well as international experts.

The main aim of the Urban Mobility Forum will be to gather all the stakeholders involved in the organisation and operation of public transport in Cairo and other cities in order to discuss about “out-of-the-fares-box financial mechanisms” and come-up with one or two appropriate and concrete solutions. The Forum will be focused on the Cairo metro system but the contributions and the conclusions will be relevant also for other cities.

The event will be held in Semiramis Intercontinental Hotel ( El, Nile Corniche, Cairo Governorate 11511, Égypte).
