Dominican Republic: moving towards a regulatory framework for sustainable mobility

On Thursday 21 May 2026, our cooperation officer in the Dominican Republic, Candice Lamour, attended the first participatory workshop on ‘fiscal incentives and promoting access to clean technologies in the mobility sector’, organised as part of the EUROCLIMA programme.

This workshop forms part of a broader initiative aimed at developing a comprehensive and coherent regulatory framework for electric mobility, micromobility and non-motorised mobility in the Dominican Republic. Several of the country’s mobility stakeholders, including FIMUS, came together to discuss the regulatory, fiscal and institutional levers needed for the transition to more sustainable mobility.

Funded by the European Union and implemented by FIAP in support of INTRANT and CNCCMC, the EUROCLIMA programme supports, in particular:

– the promotion of electromobility;

– the regulation of micromobility;

– the development of active and non-motorised mobility;

– the integration of sustainable mobility issues into urban policies.

The discussions also provided an opportunity to share international experiences (from Spain, Mexico, Costa Rica, Chile, Brazil and Colombia) in order to identify regulatory models suited to the Dominican context and to develop regulatory proposals that will promote lower-carbon mobility.

This work represents an important step in supporting the transition towards more sustainable, inclusive and resilient mobility systems in the Dominican Republic.
