Discovering modes of transport in Antananarivo (Madagascar): The motorcycle taxi

Follow Jean-Jacques Helluin, Executive Director of Codatu, in a series of videos devoted to the different ways of getting around the Malagasy capital.

In this latest episode, he introduces us to the motorcycle taxi.

Relatively new to Madagascar, motorcycle taxis developed with the arrival, around ten years ago, of low-cost Chinese motorcycles and scooters. Today, there are around 5,000 in Antananarivo, accounting for 4% of motorised journeys (PMUD 2024 data).

In Antananarivo, every mode of transport has its place: from walking to motorcycle taxis, bicycle taxis and Taxi-Be. Understanding these modes of transport means better planning for the city, improving mobility and making everyday life smoother and more enjoyable for residents. Thank you for joining us on this journey of discovery into Madagascan mobility!
