Codatu on mission in Côte d’Ivoire – Follow-up on technical cooperation with AMUGA

As part of the technical cooperation led by CODATU within AMUGA – Autorité de la Mobilité Urbaine dans le Grand Abidjan (Greater Abidjan Urban Mobility Authority) – with financial support from AFD (Agence Française de Développement) and the French Treasury, a follow-up mission by the CODATU team took place last week in Abidjan.

The mission’s objective: to take stock of the progress of FEXTE programme activities, identify future prospects with AMUGA and local stakeholders, and further discussions on informal transport, notably through field visits to several stations in Greater Abidjan and meetings with professionals in the sector. Some of the activities currently underway as part of the cooperation:

  • Professionalisation of paratransit: development of a roadmap for its integration into the Greater Abidjan mobility system, led by the Transitec – Transamo – GLI consortium. The diagnostic phase is underway, with surveys having just been completed.
  • Development and operation of AMUGA: mission led by the Espélia – SYTRA consortium, aimed at providing the institution with a short- and medium-term strategic vision adapted to the evolution of its missions. The work focuses in particular on internal organisation, capacity building, phased recruitment, training and tools. The mission is well advanced, with completion scheduled by the end of the year.
  • Skills development: organisation of workshops and training courses on mapping and data management, operator monitoring, project management and operating contracts, among other topics.
  • Monitoring discussions: on pricing and financing in the sector, network restructuring, intermodality and interoperability, work related to major mobility projects in Greater Abidjan.

This mission also enabled CODATU to engage with numerous technical, institutional and academic partners on the dynamics of urban mobility in Greater Abidjan and preparations for the Conference on Sustainable Urban Mobility and Climate, to be held in Abidjan in October 2026.
