CODATU in Côte d’Ivoire [CODATU – AMUGA – AFD technical cooperation] – Update on activities during the first year of the second phase of cooperation
The start of the new year 2026 is an opportunity to take stock of the activities carried out during the first part of FEXTE 2 Abidjan.
Launched at the end of 2024, the second phase of cooperation between CODATU, AMUGA and AFD has had a particularly busy first year, working to operationalise the Greater Abidjan mobility policy.
Against a backdrop of simultaneous implementation of structural projects (metro, BRT, intermodality, professionalisation of paratransit), this first year of FEXTE 2 (2024–2027) has enabled key strategic, institutional and technical actions to be undertaken, including:
➡️ the completion of the study on public transport pricing and financing, and support for AMUGA in taking ownership of its conclusions and promoting them at the institutional level;
➡️ the launch of an operational roadmap for the professionalisation and integration of paratransit into the future Greater Abidjan network;
➡️ enhanced support for the institutional development of AMUGA (organisation, human resources, tools and methods);
➡️ several capacity-building actions in Côte d’Ivoire and internationally (France) on key issues: governance, operational monitoring, data and mapping, network brand platform, legal framework;
➡️ targeted expertise to support AMUGA on key operational issues.
This first year confirms the ambition of FEXTE 2: to support AMUGA in its transition to operational scale, consolidating its role as the organising authority for mobility in Greater Abidjan and promoting its skills at national and international level.
The future looks just as promising, with exciting prospects for monitoring AMUGA’s development, its monitoring of transport operators, the implementation of network restructuring and the integration of paratransit, as well as many other topics.
