#CIMDC2026: a closing ceremony marked by strong commitments to the future of mobility in Africa!

After two days of conferences, debates and meetings, the International Conference on Sustainable Mobility and Climate (#CIMDC2026) drew to a close on Wednesday 21 October at the Sofitel Abidjan Hôtel Ivoire, during a ceremony packed with speeches, initiatives and commitments for the future of sustainable mobility in Africa.
Introduced by Romain Kouakou, Director-General of AMUGA – Greater Abidjan Urban Mobility Authority, the ceremony celebrated young people, women, entrepreneurship and cooperation amongst mobility stakeholders.
Several highlights marked the closing event:
🔹 The presentation of the ‘Women on the Move in West Africa’ project by Astrid Dessi Foulon, aimed at promoting the role of women in the mobility sector and supporting their initiatives.
🔹 The awards ceremony for the Call for Initiatives in Support of Sustainable Mobility (#AIMD), recognising projects and solutions contributing to the transformation of mobility.
🔹 A speech by François DUROVRAY, President of Codatu, followed by a summary of the proceedings of the 19th Codatu Scientific Conference by Dominique Breuil, a volunteer with the association.

The Abidjan Declaration: commitments to take action

The highlight of the ceremony, the Abidjan Declaration, was presented by Jean-Jacques Helluin, Codatu’s Executive Director. This segment also featured contributions from Fatim Chigata, a student from Côte d’Ivoire, Gilles Vermot Desroches (Schneider Electric) and Delali Adedje (Yokoumi Cooperative), offering different perspectives on the challenges and prospects for sustainable mobility in Africa.
This was followed by a speech by Ronan Dantec, President of Climate Chance, focusing on prospects for action and the mobilisation of partners.
Two major institutional developments marked the closing of the event:
– The signing of a partnership agreement between Codatu and the African Association of Urban Mobility Authorities (AUMA), represented by Romain Kouakou, to strengthen their cooperation.
– The adoption of the Abidjan Declaration by Romain Kouakou, François Durovray and Ronan Dantec, affirming a shared ambition for the future of mobility in Africa.

The ceremony was also attended by a representative of the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs of Côte d’Ivoire, the Minister’s Chief of Staff.
Organised by Codatu, AMUGA and Climate Chance, the #CIMDC2026 thus draws to a close with a shared commitment: to transform ideas and pledges into concrete actions for more sustainable, inclusive and resilient mobility in Africa.
A big thank you to all the participants, speakers, partners and teams involved in this edition!
