About

France’s experience in urban mobility: a compendium of good practice for cities in the South

Since 2008, AFD and CODATU have been working together to promote sustainable urban mobility in developing and emerging countries, notably through technical cooperation projects and the production of thematic guides and publications.

French mobility organising authorities have internationally recognised experience and expertise in organising and managing urban mobility systems, based on effective governance models.

Based on this observation and at the request of cities in the South, CODATU and GART, in partnership with the AFD, are offering a collection of best practices in sustainable urban mobility based on French experience, intended to serve as an example or source of inspiration for cities in the South, in the form of thematic fact sheets.

By putting them into perspective with the challenges of mobility in the cities of the South (introduction), the fact sheets deal with various themes: governance and mobility planning, intermodality, the operation of public transport networks, shared mobility, electric mobility and digital technology.
