Preparation for CIMDC2026: growing mobilisation in Abidjan
From 9 to 12 December 2025, a delegation of five representatives from Codatu and Climate Chance travelled to Abidjan alongside teams from AMUGA to continue preparations for the International Conference on Sustainable Mobility and Climate (CIMDC2026), which will be held from 19 to 22 October 2026.
This major event aims to place Abidjan at the heart of the international dialogue on the major challenges of sustainable mobility and climate transition.
The mission began with a coordination meeting between the three co-organisers at the AMUGA headquarters. On the first day, our delegation was honoured to meet with His Excellency Jean-Christophe Belliard, French Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire. The dialogue with French diplomats continued with discussions with teams from the Economic Mission, SCAC and Business France. The delegation was then received by the First Deputy Governor of the District of Abidjan, who confirmed his interest and intention to support the Conference, before being received by the Director General of the Directorate General for Decentralisation and Sustainable Development.

The second highlight was the meeting with the business and entrepreneurial world during two sessions: the first with French companies based in Côte d’Ivoire and members of the Club Abidjan Ville Durable, organised for the occasion with the support of the economic mission and Business France at the latter’s premises. The second was with the General Confederation of Enterprises of Côte d’Ivoire, in the presence of the chair of the Mobility and Sustainable Development Commission and management teams. These two meetings identified a strong interest in the conference and opened up the possibility of partnerships with these institutions and their members.

Decentralisation and technical cooperation were also important and fundamental topics during the mission, with meetings held with the Governor of the Abidjan district and his teams in charge of sustainable mobility and development, and with the Directorate-General for Decentralisation and Local Development. These meetings identified very high expectations on the subjects of governance and the need to involve municipalities and territories in projects in Greater Abidjan and cities in general, subjects that CODATU, like Climate Chance, considers fundamental.
The holding of a Strategic Orientation Committee meeting enabled the mobilisation of around thirty local stakeholders. Their participation confirmed the strong commitment of Ivorian stakeholders and their willingness to actively contribute to the development of the programme and the success of CIMDC2026.

Finally, the press conference on 12 December marked an important milestone in the local and international visibility of the event. This mission, rich in exchanges and perspectives, constitutes a decisive step forward in the preparation of CIMDC2026.
