SLoCaT Partnership & Bridging the Gap Partnership organize Transport Day 2013, at COP 19 Warsaw

Transport
Day 2013 will be held at COP 19 in Warsaw (Hyatt Regency Warsaw Hotel, 9:00 am – 7:00 pm), Poland on 17 November 2013.

The event will be co-organised by the Bridging the Gap (BtG) initiatives and the Partnership on Sustainable Low Carbon Transport (SLoCaT).

Emissions from transport world-wide are growing faster than any other sector and are presently compromising the efforts made in other sectors.

Bridging the Gap and Sustainable Low Carbon Transport have joined forces to create Transport Day 2013 in an effort to change thinking on transport in the context of climate change and the UNFCCC process and to create a dialogue between the climate and the transport community. This edition will focus on how land transport can play a stronger role in mitigation and adaptation. It is hoped that this will mean that transport is taken more seriously in international climate change policy development and mechanisms within the UNFCCC and in the wider context of sustainable development post 2015.

The main output of the Transport Day will be the Warsaw Statement on Sustainable, Low Carbon Transport that will be communicated to Parties to UNFCCC as input to the on-going negotiations as well as other decision makers on Transport, Climate Change and Sustainable Development. The draft Warsaw statement will be circulated prior to the meeting and final draft will be adopted in the closing session of the meeting.

Other 13 organizations supporting to the event are: Association of the European Rail Industry (UNIFE); DINA; EMBARQ; FIA Foundation; German International Cooperation (GIZ); Inter-American Development Bank (IDB); Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP); The European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF); The International Association for Public Transport (UITP); The International Railway Union (UIC); The World Bank; Smart Freight Centre; UN Habitat.
