NEWS FROM THE ASSOCIATION :

The members of the General Assembly of CODATU met on Friday, May 23rd in Lyon. The report of activity of the year 2007 and the closing of the accounts of 2007 were unanimously approved.

Papers and draft detailed programme

The authors, who have been invited to submit a complete paper, have to do it before the 1rst of July. A draft detailed programme is in being and will be sent on mid-July, after validation by the members of the International Scientific Committee and the Organizing Committee.

Meetings of the Organizing Committee

* On the 9th of April, in Ho Chi Minh City during the French Week: Christian Philip and Laurence Lafon were there, as well as Lucette Dixon from the Rhone Alpes Region
* On the 18th of June by videoconference in Paris between Paris and Ho Chi Minh City.


Mediterranean Seminar: « Quality of life and competitiveness of cities : a challenge for the authorities »

The Guide of recommendations on urban transport in Mediterranean was approved by the World Bank in its French version; the English translation is being.
The Guide will be available at the beginning of the summer.

Study « Who pays what in public transport? Good practices of financing in urban public transport » jointly financed by AFD (French Development Bank) and MEEDDAT (French Ministry of Energy, Ecology, Sustainable Development and Spatial Planning)

This study, of which CODATU is the project manager, consists in two groups of offerings, which will be realized by some recipients chosen after a limited consultation:
o Case studies on a half dozen of cities
o Transversal thematic analyses of key channels for financing urban transport.

The Technical Committee piloted by CODATU and made up of CERTU, CNAM, EMTA, INRETS and ISTED, met on April 18th in Paris for finalizing the reference terms of cases studies and thematic analyses, matter of limited tenders put out on May 19th to French consultants and engineering companies.

The answers will be analyzed by the Technical Committee and the donors on June 10th. The contractors will have to give their complete file on the end of September, in order to elaborate the provisional documents for CODATU XIII and to validate tem by the donors.

The Professor Anthony MAY of the University of LEEDS-UK chairs WCTRS from now; the secretariat is always assured by the LET/ISH www.let.ish-lyon.cnrs.fr .

The President of SIG7, the Special Interest Group « Transport in Developing Countries » patronized by CODATU, is the professor Kazuaki MIYAMOTO of the Musashi Institute of Technology (University of Tokyo).

He planned to organize a special session during CODATU XIII.

In other respects, one important detail: a crossed link between CODATU and WCTRS is now available on each website.

The commission « Urban Mobility » was created during the World congress of UCLG in October 2007 in Jeju (Korea).

The Presidency is ensured by the Mayor of Stuttgart (Germany): Wolfgang SCHUSTER. The first work meeting for appointing the vice presidents and defining the objectives of this commission took place on June 3rd in Stuttgart during « Cities for Mobility ».

The Vice Presidents are as following:
- The City of Douala (Cameroon) for Africa
- The City of Montevideo (Uruguay) for South America
- The City of Hamamatsu city (Japan) for Asia
- The Rhone-Alpes Region for Europe

CODATU is associated to this commission as an observer.
