NEWS FROM THE ASSOCIATION :

CODATU’s General Assembly will be held on Wednesday, June 3rd at 5:00 pm in Lyon. On that occasion, the renewal of some members of the General Council and the election of the new board will be held.

CODATU XIV:

Laurence Lafon went to Buenos Aires from 30 March to 4 April, to meet the managers of different departments of the municipality involved in the organization of CODATU XIV. The different articles of the agreement were analyzed by both parties. Its signature is expected in early July in Lyon.

Some members of the International Scientific Committee (I.S.C.) met together to organize the scientific works :

- for reasons of greater efficiency, a sub committee of 6 persons was created: it will make proposals to be approved later by
the members of the global I.S.C. (topics, sub topics, organization of sessions,...)
- the call for papers will be launched in September with a section for students and young researchers whose papers don’t need to be formally presented at the conference but may be valued.

Lome:

The tender for the stoneresurfacing of the depot has just been launched. Works should be carried out from the middle of May. In addition, a motion of non objection from the city of Lome has been forwarded to AFD by the end of April: the goal is to benefit of funding for an expert’s valuation of SOTRAL.

CLATPU XV:

As a part of her mission in Argentina for CODATU XIV, Laurence Lafon followed some of the works of CLATPU. In order to improve the study AFD/MEEDDAT image with the agreement of the owners, she asks to Françoise Meteyer-Zeldine, consultant in charge thereof, to present the results in the same form as in CODATU XIII (www.codatu.org/english/studies/HCMV_14-11-08_diaporama.pdf).

Seminar Santiago, Chile (6-8 avril 2009) «Technology days Franco-Chilean: city and services»:

Because of the encountered problematics in the mai Chilean cities (Santiago, Valparaiso, Concepcion), the economic services of the French Embassy in Chile planed in November 2008 to organize a seminar of three days on urban services (2 days: urban transport, 1 day: other service) in April 2009.

They received the support of the Franco-Chilean Chamber of commerce, of MEEDDAT, of the Region Ile de France and of the Chilean Ministry of Transportation.

As the topic «urban transport» was one of the major topics, the Embassy requested the support of CODATU for validating the technical organization of the seminar and for experts. Françoise Meteyer-Zeldine, consultant in charge of the study AFD /MEEDDAT presented the first results of the study and stressed the importance to have an organizing authority of transport.

Bernard Rivalta, President of SYTRAL, the organizing authority of transport in Lyon, presented the network of Lyon and stressed too the importance to have an organizing authority of transport well structured. Their presentations were greatly appreciated.

In other respects, Bernard Rivalta as Grand Lyon’s vice-President and Representative of Gerard Collomb, the Mayor of Lyon and President of Grand Lyon, invited the Mayors of Santiago and Valparaiso to come on the 8th December in Lyon, for the lights’s festival. Actually, these cities would like to organize an event similar in 2010, the 200 years birthday of the independence of Chile.
mbers of the General Council and the election of the new board will be held.

NEWS FROM MEMBERS :

Matthieu Desiderio, new member of CODATU, took part in the 10th Annual golden Spike Seminar organised by the Indiana High Speed Rail Association, on the 19th and 20th of March 2009 in Merrillville, Indiana (USA).
His presentation on the intermodal systems in the field of passengers’s transportation and on the involvement of private companies in the public transport sector has been welcomed by an audience of a hundred people: professionals of the rail industry, economic services and chambers of commerce (German, French, Spanish, etc...), members of the Indiana High Speed Rail Association, local people interested in the development of rail transportation in the American Midwest, etc...

The organizers were really very surprised by the success of this seminar. The recent announcements made by the American Federal Government about the funding of transport, particularly with the recovery plans, has probably caused a growing interest in the topics discussed at this seminar. Indeed, it was dedicated to high speed rail and by extension to the sustainable urban mobility.

More, we have to notice the attendance of the French actors who are responsible for a large part to the success of this event. The presence of Mr Jean-Pierre Loubinoux, Managing Director of SNCF International, and Mr Charles Wochele, Vice President of Alstom North America in charge of Business Development has indeed attracted competitors from neighbouring countries: Siemens, Talgo, etc. As a proof of the success of this event, the press titled that the SNCF is very interested by the high-speed rail system in the USA (AFP-reprinted in «Les échos», March 20, 2009), among other articles taken by other media.

Last, this event was an opportunity in front of an American public always fond of knowledge in this sector, to apply again our willingness to share and exchange French-European best practices for a development of an individual mobility through means (offers, services, infrastructure) always more respectful to wands the environment.
